History

The Brown family has been farming the area since the 1860’s when James Brown came over from England and purchased his first plot of land in the Poquonock section of Windsor, heart of the CT River Valley. Tobacco grown for cigar wrappers quickly became a world-renowned cash crop. Thousands of acres were grown throughout the valley providing employment for thousands of seasonal workers over the years, including hundreds of local teens.

Since 1978, Browns Harvest has been offering spring crops of asparagus and strawberries. Summer time brings in local produce such as blueberries and sweet corn, as well as an annual Sunflower Festival. Fall brings hayrides, pumpkin picking, a 6 acre corn maze and their famous apple cider donuts!

Today, 5 th generation sisters Kathi and Sue, continue the family farming tradition on a preserved parcel of 58 acres, just up the road from the original farm. They invite people out to the farm for ever-changing seasonal farm events.
