History

The very beginning

The Brown family has been farming the area since the 1860s when James Brown came over from England and purchased his first plot of land in the Poquonock section of Windsor, the heart of the CT River Valley. Connecticut tobacco was grown for cigar wrappers and quickly became a world-renowned crop. In addition to growing tobacco, in 1978, the Brown family decided to open up our farm stand, Brown's Harvest. Our original crops were strawberries & vegetables, and shortly after started growing pumpkins.

Brown's Harvest Today

Today, Brown's is a female-owned & operated farm with 5th-generation sisters Kathi Martin and Sue Connor, continuing the family farming tradition. Brown's is on a preserved parcel of 58 acres, just up the road from the original farm. We understand the importance of family, and that's why we're happy to provide a place where families can gather to connect, spend time and create long-lasting memories.
