Our Story

Our ancestor, James Brown, holding up tobacco

The Very Beginning

The Brown family has been farming the area since the 1860s when James Brown came over from England and purchased his first plot of land in the Poquonock section of Windsor, the heart of the CT River Valley. Connecticut tobacco was grown for cigar wrappers and quickly became a world-renowned crop. In addition to growing tobacco, in 1978, the Brown family decided to open up our farm stand, Brown's Harvest. Our original crops were strawberries & vegetables, and shortly after started growing pumpkins.

Brown’s Harvest Today

Brown’s Harvest is a proudly female-owned and operated family farm in Windsor, Connecticut, where generations of agricultural tradition continue to thrive. Today, 6th-generation sisters Kathi Martin and Sue Connor, alongside 7th-generation farmer Alex Connor, carry on a family farming legacy that dates back to the 1860s.

In 2019, the Brown family permanently preserved 61 acres of farmland near the original family farmstead, ensuring that this valuable agricultural land remains protected for future generations. As one of Connecticut’s long-standing family farms, Brown’s Harvest is dedicated to growing fresh produce, preserving local farming traditions, and creating meaningful experiences for the community.

Family has always been at the heart of everything we do. Whether you're visiting for seasonal events, farm-fresh produce, pick-your-own experiences, or a day spent outdoors, Brown’s Harvest offers a welcoming place where families and friends can gather, connect, and create lasting memories together.
